Week 8 writing assignment

Charles Harbutt

In this picture that charles Harbutt took,I can see that the light source come form outside the car's window. I would guess this is either before or after the noon. The light shoot in to the car about 45 degree, which slide the picture to two part. upper part is darker and the lower part is brighter.  The woman at the left side, which is looking at the bride, her eyes are focus on the bride. Because the lighting and the angle how her eyes are looking at the bride, my eyes follow the "line" and move around the picture. At the end, my eyes will automatically focus on the bride, this probably will not work if the woman at the left didn't try to lift the dress.

What motivates you to stage design work?
"I enjoy to design the dress for the different stage show, each show is so unique and special. It content it's own culture. Every time when I got the case from different show, I study the book about that culture and the history of the background, try to understand it more so I can get inspire from it."

What are you trying to communicate with your art?
"I try to show the audience what will be the costumes of that time. The style of each show are different. A great design can send a lot of message to them."


What is most important to you with your art?
"the most important thing is learn more about art."
