Week 4 assignment

Week Four - Writing Assignment

1.  I took Photo because I just love it for no reason. I think see through the camera it's a totally different world.   When the motivation is internal, I took the picture from what I want to look.   When the motivation is external I hope I can catch up some strong message to send to people.

2.  What interests and inspires you as an artist in your broader life? I'm interest in modern art and photography, creative art, graphic design, architecture, interior design stuff like that. I love to design something. I just love the feeling when the picture caught my eyes and send me the message by those great artist. maybe it inspires me want to do the same thing or send the different message to people.

Week 3-Written Assignment

Blind Boy-CharlesHarbutt

1. Photo draws your eye, catches your interest. This photo got my attention because of  the boy's position. I wasn't sure what he was doing until I read the title, the blind boy. It got my attention also because the light was on him and looks like he was searching for something.
2. Angle or point of view. Angle is definitely interest me. It gives me a feeling that I'm actually looking at the boy from behind of him.
3. Makes the viewer think or react emotionally. I think if I was at the room with the boy, I really want to give him a hand or join him to "look" for something together.
4. Has a message, or pushes barriers. I think it might be telling me that the blind boy is trying hard to feel the world even know he can not see anything.
5. The subject matter is interesting. The way he is touching the wall feels like he is trying to understand what is a "wall."
6. Tells a story. Again, He try to feel stuff around him.
7. Catches the ‘critical moment’ when action is at it’s peak. I'm not sure if he was trying to stand up or do something, it could be a moment that everything can happen after this.
8. Clear focus of photo (both the sharpness and primary subject matter). It's a wide view, but i think the white light on the boy drag your eyes more to it.
9. Design elements: composition, framing, lines, movement. I think the picture on the wall is interesting, maybe the blind boy draw it. composition is good.
10. Lighting interesting. The ling at the middle of the picture put my eyes focus on him.
11. Technically proficient (exposure, focus, etc).  I think it just focus on the boy.
12. Good printing: frame, paper, size, all match content. There is no frame for this picture, but I still think its a good picture.

Portraits of Kristen-Week 2 Assignment

Writing assignment for 9/8

1. At the beginning I have no idea how can we start this assignment.  However, I feel comfortable for this assignment. I was excited to see what kind of picture that kristen will take for me since she has few years experience of photography. I love those pictures!

2. I think how to let model feel comfortable is very important. If they can't release themselves then it is hard to take a good moment from them. Try to understand models and make them feel more comfortable is definitely going to help both you and the models.

Charles Harbutt-smoking in room

1. Travelog, Charles Harbutt,1973
2. P.56, P.97
3. All the people in the photo are looking at her  and her missing Face. The face was cut out, so it makes me wonder how pretty she is. She’s the only bright dress color in the picture that will make the eyes focus on her.
4. The title of the picture is home, which has two empty chair there. It makes me feel want to sit down with my family and chat with them because we haven’t gather together for a while. The tree behind it gives me a feeling that how it grows up with us and protect the house.  The whole picture feels like in the back yard of my house.
5. I read few of the photography books in the library, but this one caught my eyes by how all the pictures he took is quite of interesting for me.
6. Some of his picture can talk. It makes me thinking about what was going on in the picture and why and how he took it. He also has strong images too.  When he took the picture of the world, it’s all from different part of the angle to look at the same spot we’ve been to.
7. I think if taking a picture of living thing, the best way is they act natural. Just like they never notice there was a camera there.   For an object, see it with a different way that everybody else does. Everyone’s perspective is unique. Observe is always important than everything. We see the same things everyday over and over again, but we never actually really observe or took a close look at it. I believe the camera will help us to find and discuss the whole new way to look at things with its eyes.
